New year message December 30, 2014

As the rest of humanity anticipates a more fulfilling New Year, I urge all compatriots to be resolute and embrace the New Year 2015 with a determination to make our dear country better.

Democracy remains the best form of contemporary government known to man. In the New Year, I urge that we spare no effort to ensure that we protect and nurture it as an important vehicle for sustainable development.

Elections constitute an important instrument for renewing and strengthening the peoples’ faith in free choice and accountable governance. Indeed, as we approach the general election, I urge all Nigerians to strengthen their resolve to elect leaders who will work for the common good and be guided by the rule of law.

In this pursuit, I implore sober reflection, due consideration for the manifest destiny of our beloved country and the urgent need for our country to be a better place that we all can proudly call our own.

I am confident that regardless of the challenges that lie in wait, Nigeria must surely overcome. I urge all patriots to share this optimism with me and work hard to ensure that collectively a new Nigeria is born in the comity of powerful democracies of the world.

Finally, I wish all Nigerians and indeed the entire global community, a most fulfilling new year.
